Precautions for the use of green silicon carbide powder in the steelmaking industry

December 08,2022

Green silicon carbide is an abrasive and a good raw material for making non-metallic substances. It is often used for grinding hard alloys and hard and brittle metals and non-metallic materials, such as copper, brass, aluminum and magnesium and other colored metals and gemstones, optical glass , ceramics and other non-metallic materials.

1. When the converter smelts continuous casting molten steel, the iron mixing furnace should report the molten carbon, temperature and type of the metal entering the converter to the front of the converter in time, so that the converter can accurately add an appropriate amount of green silicon carbide micropowder according to the regulations.

2. The green silicon carbide micropowder is added from the scrap steel tank at the mouth of the converter. This method is time-consuming and laborious, and normal steelmaking production is not advisable.

3. After the test of Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., if the addition method is appropriate and the operation is correct. The addition of green silicon carbide powder can better improve the production quality.

Supplement the situation of insufficient molten steel temperature, add 8.0kg/t steel at the same time, the average temperature of molten steel is 48.4°C (range 40.3-70.3°C), adding appropriate silicon carbide in the converter can reduce (TFe) by 1.3%, which is beneficial to converter slagging Desulfurization and reduce slag damage to refractory bricks.
